Third Party Reproduction, or donor-assisted reproduction, is one of the most commonly used procedures where the DNA or gestation is provided by a third party, known as the donor(s). The donor in the entire process is other than one or both parents.
It is very useful for couples who are unable to reproduce naturally due to health conditions or any other reason such as same-sex couples or a person without a partner.
In third-party reproduction, the most common sources for an egg donor, sperm donor, and surrogate. An important thing here is that the donors are matched according to the couple who wants to get pregnant according to various criteria in terms of education, background, physical characteristics, and blood grouping. The specialist professionals also examine the physical fitness of all the parties for better results in third party reproduction. It also involves the screening of infectious diseases and thalassemia profiles before recruiting a donor.
The stimulation of the donor is performed with the help of injections. At the same time, recipient women are started on medication to prepare the uterus for embryo transfer. When the egg is ready, it is then transferred to the recipient’s uterus.
After over 14 days of the process, a pregnancy test is done with a donor semen sample or after embryo transfer through donor IVF program. Once the pregnancy is confirmed, the surrogate stays in the home centres and their pregnancies are supervised throughout the antenatal period.
